How the match unfolded
Cristian Chivu rotated his side, with Aleksandar Stankovic making his first Inter start in midfield and Alessandro Bastoni captaining the team. Venezia sat deep and looked dangerous on the counter. Filip Stankovic, Aleksandar's older brother, saved from Ange-Yoan Bonny in the 23rd minute, and Venezia had a goal by Lauberbach ruled out for offside in the first half.
Venezia had another goal, from Akor Adams, disallowed for offside after the break as Inter struggled to find space. The breakthrough came in the 79th minute, when Marcus Thuram beat his marker and his cross was turned into his own net by Moreno.
Three minutes later Hakan Çalhanoğlu's corner was flicked on at the near post by Carlos Augusto and deflected in off Halhal to make it 2-0.
What does it mean?
The win was Inter's eighth in nine league games and took them back to the top of Serie A. The club say 25 points is their best start after nine matches in the three-points-for-a-win era. Venezia, bottom of the table, have lost eight of their nine games.
