How the match unfolded
Daniele De Rossi's side struck early. In the 12th minute Ehizibue met Baldanzi's cross and his shot took a deflection off Andrea Cambiaso, leaving Guglielmo Vicario with no chance.
Juventus tried to respond through a Pierre Kalulu cross and a Federico Gatti header in the 20th minute, but Genoa doubled their lead just before the half-hour. In the 28th minute Baldanzi collected a loose ball in the area and his finish went in off Bremer. Kalulu had Juventus's best chance before the break but failed to hit the target from Weston McKennie's pass.
Luciano Spalletti made two changes at half-time, sending on Edon Zhegrova and Nick Woltemade. In the 52nd minute Justin Bijlow came out to stop Randal Kolo Muani after a heavy touch, and in the 64th minute Bremer headed wide from a Zhegrova corner. Ten minutes later Bijlow tipped a Zhegrova shot over the bar.
Juventus's best chances came in stoppage time. Teun Koopmeiners hit the crossbar with a free kick, Bijlow saved from Jhon Lucumí, and Woltemade's follow-up was blocked as Genoa held on. Juventus had 57 per cent of possession and 16 attempts, but only four on target, according to the official Serie A match report.
What does it mean?
It was Genoa's third straight home win and third victory in four league games, lifting them to 10 points and away from the relegation zone. Juventus suffered their third league defeat of the season and second without scoring in 10 days, after the 3-0 home loss to Lazio. Spalletti apologised to supporters after the game and said his side must be stronger physically.
