How the match unfolded
A minute's silence was held before kick-off in memory of the victims of the Urda rail accident in the province of Toledo, and Real Madrid's players wore black armbands.
Real Madrid, playing in pink, controlled the opening exchanges. Arda Güler curled a first-time shot just wide from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cut-back in the seventh minute, and Julen Agirrezabala kept out a close-range Bellingham header three minutes later.
Moments afterwards Matteo Prati brought down Mbappé in the area, and the France forward sent the 11th-minute penalty into the bottom left corner. Racing almost replied straight away, but Thibaut Courtois saved from Iker Luque.
The second goal came in the 21st minute. Güler played a through ball behind the Racing defence, Bellingham ran on from midfield, rounded Agirrezabala and rolled the ball into an empty net. Racing then lost right-back Álvaro Mantilla to injury, with Pedro Felipe replacing him.
Diomande made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. When a Real Madrid corner was only half cleared, he met the loose ball outside the box with a right-footed volley into the top corner. Jeanuël Belocian and Luque were booked before the break.
Racing had more of the attacking play after half-time without creating a clear chance. Mbappé hit the post with a curling shot from the edge of the area around the hour, and Bellingham was denied again from a tight angle.
With about 20 minutes left, Racing were awarded a penalty for handball against Aurélien Tchouaméni, but referee José Luis Munuera Montero overturned it after a VAR review. The BBC reported that the ball had deflected up off the midfielder's boot before touching his arm. Bellingham had the ball in the net in stoppage time, but he was ruled offside.
Real Madrid finished with 22 shots to Racing's 10, and seven on target to one.
What does the win mean for Real Madrid?
The result takes Real Madrid to 27 points, three behind Barcelona and one behind second-placed Atlético Madrid, who won 2-0 at Levante on Saturday. It follows last weekend's 2-1 Clásico win at Camp Nou, where Mbappé scored twice. Real Madrid described this as their sixth straight win in all competitions.
According to ESPN, Bellingham's goal was his 50th for Real Madrid, making him the first Englishman to reach that mark for the club. Diomande, also on target in the 4-1 home win over Sevilla, produced the most spectacular goal of the afternoon. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, made his first start since mid-September.

Real Madrid travel to AEK Athens in the Champions League on Wednesday before facing Valencia at Mestalla next Saturday. Racing stay on 11 points, one point above the relegation zone, and visit Málaga on Saturday. More results are in our La Liga section.
