How the match unfolded

PSG started fast, with Désiré Doué and Fabián Ruiz both going close inside the first ten minutes. Dominik Greif then kept out a low strike from Ferran Torres as the hosts took control of the ball.

Lyon had the best chance of the first half shortly after the half-hour mark, when Matvey Safonov made a fine save to deny Julien Duranville on the break. Zachary Athekame also tried his luck for the visitors, while Greif saved from Maghnes Akliouche at the other end, and the teams went in level at the break.

João Neves wasted a good chance early in the second half, and Safonov had to react quickly to keep out a header from Moussa Niakhaté. With the game still goalless, Luis Enrique turned to his bench: Godts replaced Neves in the 57th minute, and Mayulu and Lucas Hernández came on eight minutes later.

The changes decided the game. In the 72nd minute, Godts found Mayulu on the edge of the box, and the 20-year-old drilled a low shot into the corner for his first goal since April. Twelve minutes later, Quentin Ndjantou, on as a substitute only three minutes earlier, sent a long pass over the Lyon defence on the break. Godts ran onto it and beat Greif from the edge of the area for his first goal since joining from Ajax this season.

What it means

PSG finished with 68% of the ball and moved to 17 points from eight games, ahead of Rennes on 16, with Lille and Monaco on 15. Lyon started the night level with PSG on 14 points and could have gone top, but Paulo Fonseca's side dropped to fifth.

The win came without several first-team regulars. Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos were missing, and PSG fans paid tribute before kick-off to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is having surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

The fixture had been moved back 24 hours from Sunday after Paris police prohibited it on the original date during a weekend of protests in the city. The rescheduled game was played on the same evening as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London.

What's next

PSG travel to bottom club Le Havre on Friday 30 October. Lyon host Angers on Saturday 31 October.
