Ousmane Dembélé missed a penalty but then set up Illia Zabarnyi's equaliser and scored the second goal as Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to win 3-1 at Strasbourg on Saturday. Giovanni Reyna had given the hosts a first-half lead at the Stade de la Meinau, and Désiré Doué added a third in stoppage time to send Luis Enrique's side top of Ligue 1 ahead of their rivals' weekend matches.

How the match unfolded

Three days after the 4-2 Champions League win at Manchester City, Luis Enrique rotated heavily, leaving Dembélé, Doué, Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes on the bench.

Strasbourg took the lead in the 17th minute. Gessime Yassine found Reyna on the right side of the area, and the United States international beat Matvey Safonov with a left-footed shot at the near post, and it stayed 1-0 until half-time.

Safonov kept PSG in the game after the break, diving to keep out a Conrad Harder header in the 50th minute. Nuno Mendes, Doué and Vitinha came on in the 53rd and 54th minutes, and Hakimi and Dembélé followed in the 63rd. Strasbourg still threatened, and Safonov saved from Yassine and Harder in the 67th minute.

PSG were given a penalty when Doué's shot struck the hand of Pape Demba Diop, but Dembélé sent the 72nd-minute spot-kick wide. He made amends five minutes later, crossing to the back post for Zabarnyi to finish from close range.

In the 85th minute, Strasbourg failed to clear a cross and Dembélé cut inside before driving a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Nuno Mendes went off injured late on after PSG had used all their substitutes, leaving them with ten men.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Dembélé controlled Safonov's long ball and found Ferran Torres on the right, and Torres's pass reached Doué at the back post for a right-footed finish.

What it means

The win takes PSG to the top of Ligue 1 on 14 points, level with Monaco, who have a game in hand. Lille, a point further back, host Brest later on Saturday. Luis Enrique's side had also needed a second-half lift from their bench in last weekend's 3-1 win over Le Mans.

Strasbourg are 12th on 7 points after a third straight league defeat, following the 2-1 loss at Nice.

What happens next

PSG host Barcelona in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday (20:00 UK), then Lyon in Ligue 1 on Sunday 25 October. Strasbourg visit Rennes the same day.
