Bournemouth beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scoring to deepen the pressure on Michael Carrick. United captain Bruno Fernandes started on the bench and stayed there, days after criticising the team's tactics following the 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como.

How the match unfolded

Carrick made four changes from Wednesday's defeat in Italy, with Carlos Baleba replacing Fernandes and Harry Maguire captaining the side. Bournemouth started on top: Rayan headed off target from a corner in the fourth minute, Maguire blocked his shot soon after, and Leny Yoro had to clear over his own bar to stop Evanilson tapping in.

United did not have a shot on target until the 40th minute. By then they were behind. Ayden Heaven was booked for a dangerous challenge on Evanilson in the 37th minute, and from the free kick Justin Kluivert's delivery found Rayan unmarked at the back post. The Brazilian volleyed low past Senne Lammens in the 38th minute.

Đorđe Petrović saved from Bryan Mbeumo at the other end, but in the 43rd minute Yoro lost his footing outside his own area, Adrien Truffert took the ball and squared it for Tavernier to tap into an empty net. The home side were booed off at half-time.

Carrick replaced Youri Tielemans with Matheus Cunha at the break. Evanilson had the ball in the net early in the second half but was offside, and Lammens saved from Rayan. The third goal came in the 71st minute: Lewis Cook's long ball drew Lammens out of his area, Evanilson reached it first, went round the goalkeeper and curled into the empty net from a tight angle on the right.

United's late pressure produced mostly blocked shots, and Petrović saved from Mason Mount in stoppage time. Fernandes warmed up but was not used.

Pressure on Carrick

The defeat extended United's winless run to eight games in all competitions and left them 16th with seven points from eight league games. According to BBC Sport, it is their lowest points total at this stage of a league season since 1986-87. Carrick had described dropping Fernandes as a "football decision", BBC Sport reported.

Carrick's name was sung at full time as he walked a lap of the pitch, and the players were booed once he had gone down the tunnel. Maguire told Sky Sports: "It wasn't good enough... We didn't perform well enough as individuals or as a team and we didn't deserve anything from the game." He added: "At the moment it's nowhere near good enough and something needs to change."

Former United defender Gary Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, described the situation as "an absolute mess", while Jamie Carragher said Carrick "needs to be relieved of his duties tonight".

Bournemouth's run continues

Marco Rose's side have now won four games in a row in all competitions, following the 3-0 Europa League win over AC Milan on Thursday and last weekend's 2-0 win over Sunderland, their first in the league this season. They move up to 13th with nine points.

Tavernier has five league goals this season, and Evanilson has four in his last five games in all competitions. Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last four Premier League visits to Old Trafford and have scored at least three goals in each of them.
