Toulouse 3-1 Strasbourg: Hidalgo, McKenzie and Jørgensen

Toulouse and Strasbourg players contest the ball in fog at the Stadium de Toulouse

Santiago Hidalgo, Mark McKenzie and Thomas Jørgensen scored as Toulouse beat Strasbourg 3-1 at the Stadium de Toulouse on Friday night, lifting the hosts to 10th in Ligue 1 and leaving Racing 13th.

How the match unfolded

The first half was tight until stoppage time. Sion Oppong teed up Hidalgo, who finished with his left foot for 1-0 after a VAR check confirmed the goal in the first minute of added time.

After the restart Toulouse doubled the lead from a corner. Cristian Cásseres delivered and Mark McKenzie headed home in the 56th minute. Giovanni Reyna pulled one back for Strasbourg in the 67th minute after a mix-up involving McKenzie and Jørgensen, but the hosts restored the two-goal cushion on 76 minutes when Jørgensen scored from a second ball after another Cásseres corner, with Rasmus Nicolaisen involved in the build-up.

Strasbourg pushed late — Sebastian Nanasi and Sam Amo-Ameyaw both had sights of goal — but Toulouse managed the closing stages and even drew "olé" chants as they kept the ball.

Fog hung over the Stadium for much of the evening, and the first half produced few clear chances until Hidalgo's breakthrough. Casper Tengstedt forced Filip Jörgensen into a sprawling save just before McKenzie's header, and Strasbourg's response through Reyna briefly threatened a comeback before the second Cásseres corner settled the contest.

Toulouse collected yellow cards for Christ Tapé, Thomas Jørgensen and Niko Sigur, while Strasbourg were booked for Karim Coulibaly, Gessime Yassine and Jacobo Ortega, but neither side saw a red card.

What the result means

Toulouse move to 13 points from 10 matches, three points off the top five, while Strasbourg sit on 10 points in 13th after a third defeat in four. Hidalgo's opener was his first of the season; McKenzie and Jørgensen punished set-piece weakness that Racing could not fix.
