How the match unfolded

Atalanta started on the front foot. Charles De Ketelaere drove a low shot just wide in the fifth minute, and Nikola Krstović had the ball in the net three minutes later, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside against Zappacosta in the build-up. De Ketelaere went close again in the 14th minute, and Éderson fired just wide from 25 metres five minutes later.

Parma scored against the run of play in the 41st minute. Vincent Sierro swung in a corner and Fabbian headed in from close range. Daffara then kept the lead intact in first-half stoppage time with a save from Nicola Zalewski's first-time volley.

The second half was two minutes old when Parma doubled their advantage. El Bilal Touré drove a low cross into the box and Zappacosta, trying to cut it out ahead of Lontani, turned it into his own net.

Daffara tipped a Jonathan Rowe shot behind in the 55th minute, and three minutes later Parma struck again. Fabbian set up Lontani, who placed a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.

Sarri sent on Eljif Elmas, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Lazar Samardžić and Javison Idele, but Atalanta still could not find a way through. Daffara saved from Krstović in the 71st minute, Mario Pašalić headed Idele's cross onto the crossbar in the 79th, and Lorenzo Bernasconi's late shot was also saved. Atalanta finished with 20 shots and almost 70% possession, according to ESPN data, to Parma's six attempts.
