How the match unfolded
Arsenal were ahead inside nine minutes. Gyökeres slipped the ball through for Madueke, and the winger finished after a move that capped a start in which the visitors had settled quickly and kept possession.
Slavia's back line held its shape for long stretches of the first half without ever looking comfortable on the ball. The second goal came seven minutes before the break, Gyökeres collecting Merino's pass after a short exchange and sliding a low finish into the far corner.
Mikel Arteta had rested Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard and Christos Tzolis from his starting eleven, and for 45 minutes the rotation appeared cost-free. Slavia changed the shape of the evening after the restart. Their full-backs pushed higher, the pressing became more aggressive, and Arsenal found themselves managing a contest they had previously controlled.
Slavia's best spell brought them a corner on 78 minutes and a scare for Arsenal. Merino clattered into Nowak as they challenged for the rebound, and VAR checked for a penalty before clearing it as an accidental clash of heads. Arteta answered at once, sending on Jurriën Timber and Ødegaard for Ben White and Gyökeres.
The clearest chance of the half came six minutes later. Oskar Kubiak met a cross cleanly and Raya tipped the header onto the post before gathering the rebound, a save that preserved the 2-0 cushion.
Slavia's goal came in the 90th minute. Jurásek whipped a delivery in from the left that cleared the defenders and Raya, leaving Nowak to convert into an empty net from close range. The build-up was checked and the goal stood, setting up a fraught ending in which Mikuláš Konečný forced one more save from Raya. Slavia finished with 18 shots to Arsenal's 12.
What does the result mean in the table?
Arsenal are third in the 36-team league phase on ten points from four matches, unbeaten with three wins and a draw, two points behind the leaders Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid on twelve. The position matters: the top eight go directly to the last 16, and Arsenal's goal difference of plus five keeps them comfortably inside that group heading into the second half of the league phase. The result follows their 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich on matchday 3.
Slavia are 34th with one point from four games, having drawn one and lost three. They sit ten places outside the top 24 that reaches the play-off round, with a goal difference of minus four after conceding nine times. The second-half display showed a side capable of troubling better opposition, but the points gap is already wide.
