Juventus have confirmed that goalkeeper Kamil Grabara suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during training, dealing an early blow to the club’s goalkeeping options.
In an official medical update published on Friday, 19 September 2026, the Serie A club said Grabara sustained a sprain to his right knee in the afternoon session and underwent diagnostic tests at J|medical. Those examinations identified a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament.
“The player will undergo orthopaedic consultations in the coming days to determine the course of treatment,” Juventus stated.
Independent reporting by Sky Sport Italia confirmed the club’s bulletin, noting that Grabara’s injury came in training ahead of Juventus’ Serie A meeting with Atalanta and days after his first appearance for the club.
What the club has — and has not — confirmed
Juventus’ bulletin confirms the diagnosis and the next procedural step: specialist orthopaedic consultations to set the treatment path. The club has not, in that statement, published a return timeline, confirmed whether surgery will be required, or formally declared the length of Grabara’s absence.
An ACL tear is among the most serious knee injuries in elite football and commonly requires a lengthy rehabilitation. Any recovery window for Grabara should be treated as pending until Juventus issue a further update after those consultations.
Context to the signing
Grabara joined Juventus on loan from Wolfsburg until 30 June 2027, the club announced on 25 August 2026. The 27-year-old Poland international arrived to strengthen the first-team goalkeeping group after spells at Liverpool’s academy pathway, Aarhus, Huddersfield, Copenhagen and Wolfsburg.
According to Juventus’ own profile material issued at the time of the signing, he made 63 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg and previously won two Danish league titles and a cup with Copenhagen, where he also played in the UEFA Champions League.
Why it matters
The injury temporarily removes one of Juventus’ recently added goalkeeping options while the club awaits a definitive treatment plan.
Until orthopaedic consultations conclude, the practical picture is limited to what the club has verified: the ACL in the right knee is torn, and the therapeutic plan is still being defined. Further official updates will be needed before any firm assessment of availability for Serie A or European fixtures.
