Martín Satriano's second-half equaliser earned ten-man Getafe a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at the Coliseum on Monday, after Álvaro García had given the visitors an early lead. Getafe played for more than an hour without captain Djené Dakonam, who was sent off in the 28th minute, while Dani Carvajal made his Getafe debut in the starting line-up.

Rayo had 21 shots to Getafe's 12 and more than two-thirds of the ball, but could not find a second goal against ten men.

How the match unfolded

Getafe started brightly, and Satriano headed just over from a corner in the third minute, but it was Rayo who struck first. In the 11th minute Florian Lejeune won the ball back and sent De Frutos away on the break, and his pass across found Álvaro García, who beat David Soria with a right-footed shot into the bottom corner. Carvajal could not get across in time to cut out the ball.

Soria kept the score at 1-0 in the 24th minute with a fine save from Sergio Camello's left-footed shot. Djené, booked for handball in the 16th minute, was then shown a straight red card in the 28th minute for bringing down Álvaro García as the last defender. José Bordalás reorganised by sending on Abdel Abqar for Ramón Terrats in the 32nd minute.

Ten-man Getafe still threatened, and Jean Valou headed just wide from a corner in the 35th minute. Camello blazed over from a good position at the other end in the 39th, and a minute later Emil Audero pushed an Enes Ünal header onto the post.

Bordalás made two changes at half-time, bringing on Francho Serrano and Andrés García, and it paid off in the 56th minute. Francho crossed from the left and Satriano threw himself at the ball to finish from close range.

Rayo pushed for a winner. Álvaro García shot wide after running onto Óscar Valentín's through ball in the 65th minute, and Soria saved from substitute Pedro Díaz two minutes later and from Unai López in the 76th. Audero also kept out a long-range effort from Satriano in the 77th minute. Carvajal, booked in the 79th minute, was replaced by Sebastián Boselli a minute later, and Getafe held on through four minutes of stoppage time.

What it means

Both sides are on nine points, with Rayo 13th and Getafe 14th, two points above the relegation zone. Rayo have played a game fewer after their home match with Athletic Club was abandoned because of a fans' protest against owner Raúl Martín Presa, and Beñat San José's side have now drawn their last two league games.

Getafe, who lost 3-0 at Barcelona last time out in La Liga, have scored five goals in nine league games. Before kick-off the club marked Bordalás reaching 350 games in charge, with president Ángel Torres presenting him with a commemorative shirt.

Getafe host FC Lugano in the Conference League on Thursday (17:45 UK), then visit Athletic Club on Sunday 25 October (13:00 UK). Rayo host Elche on Saturday 24 October (13:00 UK) and visit Recreativo de Huelva in the Copa del Rey first round on Tuesday 27 October (20:00 UK).
