Fredrik Sjøvold's 52nd-minute goal gave Bodø/Glimt a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at Aspmyra Stadion in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, as Niko Kovac's rotated side left Norway without a point.

The right-back turned in Sondre Auklend's low cross for the only goal, and Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin held firm as Dortmund pushed late on the artificial pitch.

How the match unfolded

Kovac made five changes from Friday's 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Werder Bremen, according to German news agency dpa. Fábio Silva started up front ahead of Serhou Guirassy, Samuele Inácio came in, and Nico Schlotterbeck was left in Dortmund to protect his ankle.

The hosts had the better of the first half. Gregor Kobel saved from Jens Petter Hauge in the 10th minute, Sondre Brunstad Fet curled just wide of the far post and Ole Didrik Blomberg narrowly failed to reach a Hauge cross. Dortmund had Joane Gadou and Fábio Silva booked before the break and created little.

Bodø/Glimt started the second half quickly. Kobel saved from Andreas Helmersen straight after the restart, and in the 52nd minute the breakthrough came. Patrick Berg drove forward and found Auklend, whose low cross was steered in by Sjøvold with his left foot from the middle of the box.

Kovac reacted on the hour with four substitutions, sending on Guirassy, Ethan Nwaneri, Felix Nmecha and Julian Ryerson for Fábio Silva, Konstantinos Karetsas, Joey Veerman and Inácio. Dortmund finally put Bodø/Glimt under pressure.

Haikin saved a long-range shot from Nmecha, Guirassy had an effort blocked, and Nwaneri was denied twice, first with a header in the 75th minute and then from inside the box in the 84th. Nmecha forced one more save in stoppage time, but the home side held on.

What they said

"It was extremely nice. We really had to work for it today, and it was incredibly nice to come back after the heavy defeat in Munich," Sjøvold told Norwegian broadcaster TV 2, according to news agency NTB. He added: "I don't score goals that often, so it's nice."

Kovac defended his team selection. "We have the travel strain and have to take that into account. That's why we rotated today," he said, as reported by dpa.

What it means

Kjetil Knutsen's side have their first points of the league phase after a 5-0 defeat at Bayern Munich on Matchday 1. Dortmund, who opened with a 3-2 home win over Villarreal, have three points from two games.

Bodø/Glimt travel to Napoli next, while Dortmund face another long trip to Sabah in Baku on Tuesday 20 October. Another Norwegian side, Viking, drew 3-3 with Bayern on Tuesday.
