Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Arsenal that runs until June 2030, the Premier League champions announced on Wednesday. His coaching staff have also agreed new deals aligned with the length of the manager's, and the agreement is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

Arteta's previous contract, signed in September 2024, was due to expire at the end of this season. Appointed in December 2019, the 44-year-old would pass ten years in charge if he sees out the new deal.

The record behind the new deal

Arteta led Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, the club's first league championship in 22 years and their 14th in total. He has also won the FA Cup with Arsenal, and last season took them to only their second Champions League final, which they lost to Paris St-Germain in May.

According to the club, he has taken charge of 361 matches in all competitions, and his win rate of 62.05% is the best of any full-time manager in Arsenal's history. Pep Guardiola's departure from Manchester City at the end of last season also made Arteta the longest-serving manager in the Premier League.

What Arteta and the club said

"It's a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal," Arteta said. "We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together."

Co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke said Arteta "has a deep understanding of Arsenal's values and carries them in his heart".

Chief executive Richard Garlick told BBC Sport that keeping their manager gives Arsenal a "competitive advantage over the other teams", pointing out that the rest of the traditional top six have all changed managers. "We want to dominate football for the next number of years," he said.

What happens next

Arsenal return from the international break at home to Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 10 October (12:30 UK). They go into the game second in the Premier League on 12 points, three behind leaders Manchester City.
