Harry Kane set to equal Peter Shilton's England caps record against Czechia

Harry Kane is set to draw level with Peter Shilton as England's most-capped men's player when Thomas Tuchel's side host Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday, although the head coach has warned that a short turnaround means some changes to his team.

The England captain won his 124th cap in Saturday's 7-0 win over Croatia in Rijeka, one short of the 125 Shilton collected between 1970 and 1990. The Nations League match kicks off at 19:45 UK.

Tuchel on Kane's landmark

Kane has scored four times in the three games of this camp, and Tuchel admitted at his pre-match news conference on Monday that he was running out of new ways to praise him. He pointed to Kane's place on the Ballon d'Or shortlist and said the Bayern Munich striker had found a new level since taking on a major role at his club.

In a separate interview with talkSPORT, Tuchel revealed he used to pretend to be Shilton in goal as a boy. "He's a role model in the way he behaves, in the way he leads the team and in the way of course he produces outstanding performances," he said of Kane.

Kane, who scored on his debut against Lithuania in March 2015, already holds England's goalscoring record with 89 goals. If he stays fit, he could take the appearance record outright when England host Croatia at Wembley on 12 November.

Rotation after a short turnaround

Tuesday's game is England's fourth in the extended international window, and Tuchel said the Saturday-to-Tuesday schedule, with a flight from Croatia in between, would force his hand. "If the game was on Wednesday, then there would be no need for rotation at all," he said, adding that his line-up would be "a mix" of fresh legs and continuity.

He also played down expectations of another rout. "We should not expect that result," he said of the scoreline in Rijeka. "But if it's a similar performance in terms of humbleness, attitude, intensity on and off the ball, then that's what we want. That's the standard."

Czechia have lost all three group games, including a 2-0 home defeat by England last Tuesday and a 3-1 loss to Spain on Saturday. Tuchel still said they had given Spain "a lot of headaches" and were getting "stronger and stronger, especially in build-up".

Scott row and the group picture

Tuchel also defended England's handling of Alex Scott, who has left the squad with a thigh injury that BBC Sport reports could keep him out for up to eight weeks. "I can understand that Bournemouth are not happy because they lose a key player," he said, but insisted: "There was zero risk taken from our side." Ezri Konsa has also returned to Arsenal for treatment.

Spain lead Group A3 with nine points, three ahead of England, and visit Croatia on Tuesday. England close the group in November against Croatia at Wembley and Spain in Madrid.
